Workshop: The Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries
Led by Scott Samuelson from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and a philosopher in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, this online workshop will explore the promises and perils of artificial intelligence, with special focus on its potential applications in libraries. Using a blend of lecture and discussion, the workshop will present basic terms for understanding the nature of AI, address common questions and fears, explore possible modes of use or non-use, and lay out fundamental ethical concepts relevant to how we move forward with it.
The Coordinating Committee, in response to the member survey, decided to hold topic-specific online forums rather than a longer, one-time meeting. If you have questions, please contact a member of the committee.
